Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry has openly criticized Canada for its involvement in what it describes as the US-led war against Iran, underscoring Washington's ongoing economic influence over Canadian sovereignty.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Foreign Ministry's spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, expressed his disapproval through a statement on X, a US-based social media platform. Baqaei highlighted the perceived submissive relationship between Canada and the United States, accusing Ottawa of participating in an unlawful conflict to please Washington. He remarked on the economic pressure exerted by the US on Canada, including tariffs and other threats, likening Canada's response to a subordinate state.
In March, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney indicated Canada's readiness to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, signaling Ottawa's alignment with broader US objectives in the region. Despite this, Canadian officials have asserted that the country was neither consulted nor involved in any offensive actions against Iran and has no plans to engage in such operations. However, experts point out the close integration between Canadian armed forces and US military command, suggesting potential indirect involvement.
