Tehran: Iran on Friday declared that the US 'Operation Economic Outcast' campaign against Tehran is a breach of international law, labeling the latest sanctions initiative as 'economic terrorism.'

According to Anadolu Agency, the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement accusing Washington of leveraging the US dollar as a means to coerce other nations into supporting its policies toward Tehran. The ministry asserts that such actions infringe upon national sovereignty and contravene international law.

The operation has been characterized by the ministry as 'US state terrorism against Iran and the world,' underscoring the intent to cause hardship for the Iranian populace and strip them of fundamental human rights. The campaign is described as both an 'international crime' and a 'crime against humanity.'

The ministry further contends that US economic sanctions against Iran, irrespective of their designation, violate the UN Charter, international humanitarian law, and human rights. It asserts that countries should abstain from implementing these sanctions.

Tehran also criticized participation in unilateral US sanctions, asserting that it amounts to complicity in imposing Washington's will on sovereign states and disrupting their legitimate economic and trade relations.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry pledged to utilize 'all capacities' to shield Iran against what it termed the US-Israeli 'military-economic offensive and hybrid war.'

The US introduced Operation Economic Outcast on Monday, targeting what Washington has identified as Iran's key economic sectors, including oil, shipping, aviation, gold, technology, and digital assets. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the goal of the campaign is to isolate Iran from the global financial system, with Washington also blacklisting over 60 entities, individuals, and vessels worldwide.
