Tehran: Iran has announced that the expert-level technical talks with the United States, initially planned for Wednesday in Oman, have been postponed to April 26. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei made the statement on Tuesday, as reported by the official Iranian news agency IRNA.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decision to delay the talks was made based on a suggestion from Oman and was mutually agreed upon by both Iranian and US delegations. This postponement comes after a recent round of indirect nuclear negotiations between the two countries in Rome on April 19, which Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described as 'constructive.'

Araghchi noted that the four-hour session in Rome was mediated by Oman. Speaking to Iranian media following the talks, he confirmed that the next round of discussions would be held in Muscat. He also mentioned that Tehran and Washington had reached a 'better understanding' on several principles and objectives, although he did not provide specific details.

The ongoing negotiations are crucial as US President Donald Trump has issued threats of military action against Iran if a new agreement is not reached to replace the 2015 nuclear deal, which was brokered under the Obama administration.
