New york: Iran's permanent mission to the UN has categorically dismissed claims that it closed the Strait of Hormuz, labeling such assertions as "baseless and absurd." The mission emphasized that Iran is steadfast in its commitment to international law and the principle of freedom of navigation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran has accused the United States of sinking the frigate Dena, which was traveling as a naval guest with 130 sailors onboard in international waters. The incident reportedly took place nearly 2,000 miles from Iran's coastline when a U.S. submarine allegedly attacked the frigate without warning, leading to the loss of over 100 sailors.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the attack on the frigate occurred off the coast of Sri Lanka on Wednesday. The Dena was returning home following its participation in a naval drill off the Indian coast. The incident left 32 sailors wounded, with many others reported missing.

This incident in the Indian Ocean is part of a broader military campaign initiated by Israel and the United States against Iran, which has resulted in at least 926 casualties, including the deaths of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several top military officials. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries hosting US military assets.
