Ankara: Iran welcomed on Thursday a cease-fire deal to end Israel's war on the Gaza Strip, calling it a 'historic victory' for Palestinians. 'This agreement is the result of the unparalleled resistance, courage, bravery, and endurance of the great people of Palestine and Gaza in the face of one of the largest genocides and population displacements in history,' the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran emphasized that the cease-fire is also the outcome of the solidarity and unity of the people of Gaza with the resistance and their steadfastness against the forced displacement of Palestinians. The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused Israel of systematically violating international principles, human rights, and humanitarian laws, committing severe war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The statement highlighted the recurring patterns of crimes over the past 15 months, including the killing of civilians, destruction of infrastructure, and targeting of journalists and medical personnel. Iran also accused the US, the UK, Germany, and other Western countries of supporting Israel's actions through military, financial, and political aid.

Qatar announced on Wednesday a cease-fire agreement to end more than 15 months of Israeli attacks on Gaza, where over 46,700 people have been killed and more than 110,000 injured since October 7, 2023. The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani detailed the 3-phase deal, which includes a prisoner exchange and plans for a permanent truce and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

The conflict has resulted in over 11,000 people missing and has led to a humanitarian crisis affecting many elderly and children, marking it as one of the worst global humanitarian disasters.
