Mashhad: Iran held funeral prayers in the eastern city of Mashhad for Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli airstrike in February. Thousands gathered in the city as the week-long procession for the slain leader concluded. His son Mostafa Khamenei led the prayers.
According to Anadolu Agency, Khamenei is set to be buried in the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad. The joint attacks by Israel and the US in February resulted in the deaths of more than 3,000 people. In retaliation, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes against Israel and Gulf countries hosting US assets.
Last month, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding under Pakistani mediation. This agreement aims to end their military conflict and reach a lasting peace.
