Tehran: Iran has articulated that violations of commitments, along with blockades and threats, are the primary challenges hindering "genuine" negotiations with the United States. President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran is open to dialogue and a negotiated settlement, these obstacles persistently undermine any potential for substantive discussions.

According to Anadolu Agency, President Pezeshkian remarked on a prominent US social media platform, X, that the international community is witnessing a stark discrepancy between the US's proclamations and its actions. He highlighted that their "endless hypocritical rhetoric" contradicts their claims of seeking meaningful dialogue.

Adding to the discourse, Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf also expressed his views on X, asserting that a "full ceasefire is only meaningful if it is not violated by a naval blockade." He further elaborated that a genuine ceasefire should not be compromised by any form of economic hostage-taking and should ensure the cessation of Israeli aggression across all fronts. Qalibaf maintained that reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains out of reach amid what he described as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire."

The tensions in the region have escalated following joint US-Israel military actions against Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran against Israel and other regional nations hosting US military assets. As the situation intensifies, US President Donald Trump recently announced a two-week extension of the ceasefire with Iran, following requests from Pakistan's leadership.

Pakistan has played a mediating role, hosting talks between the US and Iran in mid-April and initially brokering the ceasefire earlier that month. While efforts for further negotiations are in progress, the path forward remains fraught with uncertainty.
