Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday applauded German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier for calling the US-Israeli war on Iran a "violation of international law."

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi expressed his approval on the US social media platform X, criticizing what he described as Western double standards, particularly in the context of conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging President Steinmeier's condemnation of the actions against Iran and urged others who value the rule of law to voice their concerns.

Earlier on Tuesday, President Steinmeier delivered a sharp critique of US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal. He also condemned the subsequent launch of what he termed an "illegal" war against Iran. In his speech at the German Foreign Ministry, Steinmeier stated, "In my opinion, this war is a violation of international law."

The conflict has intensified since February 28, when US and Israeli forces commenced strikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and Gulf countries that host US military installations.
