Tehran: Iran confirmed on Thursday that it remains committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and its Safeguards Agreement. This announcement follows a recent development where Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a law passed by the parliament requiring the government to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

According to Anadolu Agency, the new legislation, which was sparked by attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities by Israel and the US, mandates that Iran's cooperation with the IAEA will now be managed through Iran's Supreme National Security Council. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi communicated this shift on his X account, citing safety and security concerns as the primary reasons for the change.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also criticized Germany for its support of the recent Israeli attacks on Iran and its nuclear sites. He accused Germany of endorsing unlawful actions by the US against Iranian facilities, which he claims violate international law, the NPT, and the UN Charter.

Araghchi further highlighted Germany's stance on Iran's nuclear program, criticizing its call for 'zero enrichment' as a denial of the 2015 nuclear deal. He also referenced historical grievances, including Germany's support for actions against Iran, to illustrate the deep-seated mistrust towards Germany's intentions.

Germany recently criticized Iran's new law to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, describing it as a "devastating signal." This legislation emerges amid growing tensions between Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog over monitoring and transparency following recent military confrontations with Israel and the US.

The conflict between Israel and Iran escalated on June 13 when Israel launched air strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, leading to retaliatory actions from Tehran. The situation de-escalated with a US-sponsored ceasefire that took effect on June 24.
