Sanaa: At least 35 civilians have been killed and over 300 others injured in recent US attacks on southern Iran, the Iranian Health Ministry announced on Wednesday. Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour shared on the US social media platform X that the attacks resulted in significant casualties, including women and children, particularly affecting the provinces of Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, and Khuzestan.
According to Anadolu Agency, US strikes also targeted three locations in the southwestern Iranian city of Bushehr on Wednesday morning, though no injuries were reported in these incidents, as confirmed by the province's governor. The intensifying conflict follows US President Donald Trump's declaration on Tuesday that strikes on Iran would continue and escalate unless Tehran agreed to return to negotiations. Trump warned that US forces would begin targeting Iran's power plants and bridges next week if Tehran did not comply.
Since early Sunday, the US has been conducting daily strikes on several Iranian cities and islands, justifying the actions as a response to Tehran's alleged attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. In a move to increase pressure, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the resumption of a naval blockade on Iran on Tuesday evening.
In retaliation, Tehran has targeted what it claims are US military facilities in Arab countries. Some of these countries have reported civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure as a result of the Iranian strikes. The escalation occurs despite efforts by Pakistan to mediate a memorandum of understanding aimed at resolving the conflict and establishing a lasting peace agreement between Washington and Tehran. Iran has submitted a letter to the UN, accusing the US of breaching the memorandum.
