Tehran: Iran warned Friday that it would retaliate against any attack on its infrastructure and that Israel would face a response, according to the Mehr news agency. 'As we have previously announced, any attack on infrastructure will be met with retaliation in kind,' Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said in a statement carried by the news agency.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zolghadr emphasized that Israel, which he accused of being behind recent hostile acts, 'will not be safe from the response.' This statement comes amid heightened tensions as Iran and the US attempt to navigate their complicated relationship, having signed a memorandum of understanding last month, under Pakistani mediation, aimed at ending their military conflict and reaching a lasting peace agreement.
Despite this diplomatic effort, the situation remains volatile with the two countries exchanging attacks over the past two days following Iranian assaults on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing hostilities underscore the fragile nature of the peace efforts and the potential for further escalation in the region.
