Erbil: Iran announced on Tuesday that it launched an attack on the US base situated at Erbil airport in northern Iraq. Ground-to-ground missiles were deployed in the operation to target US forces stationed at the airport, as reported by Iran's official news agency IRNA, citing information from the Iranian army.

According to Anadolu Agency, Tehran's announcement coincided with a statement from the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) earlier that day. The KRG reported that six Peshmerga fighters were killed, and 30 others sustained injuries due to an Iranian ballistic missile strike on military positions in Erbil. Nechirvan Barzani, head of the KRG, condemned the Iranian attack, describing it as a 'hostile act.'

Tensions have been escalating since US and Israeli strikes on Iran commenced on February 28. In response, Tehran has engaged in repeated drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries that host US military assets.
