Moscow:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to meet in Moscow next week for high-level discussions, as announced by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, the meeting is set to build on the recent engagements between the two nations, following Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's visit to Tehran earlier this week. Araghchi revealed that the upcoming talks aim to continue the dialogues initiated during Lavrov's visit.
The discussions between the foreign ministers focused on enhancing political and economic ties, implementing existing agreements, and fortifying the comprehensive strategic partnership between Iran and Russia. Both sides underscored the necessity of ongoing consultations to safeguard mutual interests and foster regional peace and stability.
In January 2025, Iran and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty during President Pezeshkian's visit to Moscow. This treaty provides a framework for collaboration across various sectors, including politics, economics, security, defense, energy, and transportation.
Regular diplomatic exchanges between Moscow and Tehran address regional issues, including Middle Eastern tensions and Iran's nuclear program negotiations. The ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran, initiated in late February, remains unresolved despite a ceasefire and an understanding to finalize a peace agreement. Navigation rights in the Strait of Hormuz, pivotal for global energy transport, remain a contentious issue.
There are reports of US and Israeli plans for potential renewed strikes against Iran following the American midterm elections.
