Tehran: Iran announced on Thursday that the decision regarding a proposed understanding with the United States lies with the country's relevant authorities, countering media speculation about the timing and location of a possible signing ceremony.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized the importance of focusing on the country's formal decision-making process. Baqaei highlighted that current reports are largely based on media speculation, and only once a final decision is reached will official information be disclosed.

Baqaei stated, "The decision-making process in our country is completely clear. The relevant authorities must reach a final decision regarding the text of the understanding and any potential agreement in detail." He assured that an official statement would be issued once there is a conclusive decision.

He also noted that issues concerning the form and mechanism of signing any agreement would be addressed in due course. "As for other matters related to this issue, including the form of signing the understanding, they will be discussed later," Baqaei added.

These remarks followed US President Donald Trump's announcement of canceling planned military strikes against Iran and reports from Iranian media indicating that a draft understanding is under consideration by senior decision-making bodies. Iran's Fars News Agency mentioned that the approval likelihood by Iran's highest authorities was "relatively high" after the US showed acceptance of a proposed Iranian text for an agreement.

President Trump commented from the Oval Office, stating, "We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran, and we're going to be subject to finalization of documents, which should get done over the next few days. Probably have a signing, maybe in Europe."
