Tehran: Iranian Navy said on Wednesday that it targeted a US destroyer in the Gulf of Oman that it described as the 'command-and-control center' behind American attacks against Iranian commercial vessels.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Navy's public relations office issued a statement indicating that the action was a response to what it characterized as US 'aggressive actions,' violations of regulations in the Strait of Hormuz, and attacks against Iranian commercial shipping in the Gulf of Oman. The statement detailed that Iranian naval forces identified and targeted a US destroyer allegedly attempting to approach Iranian territorial waters in the region.

The statement further elaborated, "The Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran targeted the command-and-control center of these hostile actions, stationed aboard a US destroyer." The Navy asserted that its forces are continuing to monitor what it described as 'US-Zionist' activities in the area and warned of potential further retaliation.

In contrast, US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Wednesday refuted the Iranian claims, stating that the navy did not target a US Navy destroyer. CENTCOM communicated via US social media company X, "Iran is lying. U.S. military assets at sea continue to fly, sail, and operate safely and unimpeded."
