Moscow:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has urged major global energy suppliers to collectively condemn and counteract US measures that threaten the stability of international energy markets. He made these remarks during his address at the 8th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) held in Moscow.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Pezeshkian highlighted that geopolitical developments and unilateral actions, particularly by the US, are creating significant challenges for global energy security. He pointed out that US sanctions on Iran, in addition to restrictions on maritime and air access, could severely impact energy markets worldwide.
Pezeshkian expressed concerns over US military involvement in the Gulf region, suggesting it could adversely affect energy pricing, supply, and transportation, with potential repercussions extending beyond the immediate area. He emphasized the need for major energy suppliers to stand against measures that jeopardize the stability of global energy markets.
Furthermore, Pezeshkian called for enhanced cooperation among GECF members to mitigate market vulnerabilities and bolster the security of energy supply and demand. He advocated for collaboration in energy governance, technical activities, technology development, and market management, while also seeking expanded joint investment opportunities within the natural gas sector.
Highlighting Iran's capacity in natural gas production, Pezeshkian stated the country's readiness to engage more actively in joint investment projects and gas trade to support global energy security. He also mentioned Tehran's willingness to collaborate with international investors in both upstream and downstream gas projects.
The GECF serves as a platform for major gas-producing nations to collaborate on developments in the global natural gas markets. Pezeshkian is also scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to Moscow this week.
