Iranian President Demands End to US Sanctions Before Talks

Tehran:Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the United States must cease its pressure and threats, as well as lift sanctions, before any negotiations can take place. This declaration was made during a meeting in Tehran with Pakistan's army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, as reported by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.

According to Anadolu Agency, Pezeshkian blamed the United States for regional issues, including escalating tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, attributing them to US "warmongering." He insisted that the US must clarify its reasons for initiating conflict, which has entangled both itself and the global community.

Munir's visit to Tehran on Tuesday, with a delegation of officials, was primarily focused on enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. Esmaeil Baqaei, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, emphasized the importance of these ties and efforts to expand collaboration, while dismissing speculation that the visit might involve political messages or military threats.

This visit occurs amidst ongoing tensions between Iran and the US, with diplomatic efforts to resolve these differences remaining at a standstill. Pakistan has been involved in mediating attempts to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran, following the conflict initiated by the US and Israel on February 28.
