Iranian, Ukrainian Foreign Ministers Convene After Vessel Incident

Beirut: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha engaged in a phone conversation on Tuesday, marking their first direct communication since the alleged Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed that the two top diplomats spoke on Tuesday afternoon. However, the ministry did not immediately provide further details regarding the content of their discussion. This diplomatic engagement follows Tehran's accusation that Ukraine attacked the Iranian vessel, leading to the death of one sailor and injuring another.

Ukraine has yet to make an official statement in response to the allegations. Nonetheless, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously mentioned that Ukrainian forces had targeted vessels associated with military cargo shipments linked to Iran, though he did not specify any particular ship in his remarks.
