Ankara: Iran’s World Cup squad has been informed that it must adhere to strict entry and exit regulations, requiring them to enter and leave US soil on the same day as their matches, according to the Iranian envoy to Mexico. This decision comes amid rising regional tensions, with the US-Israeli conflict with Tehran affecting travel plans.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iran’s team, originally planning to train in Tucson, Arizona, has relocated to Mexico due to the ongoing hostilities. Ambassador Abolfazl Pasandideh highlighted the restrictive visa conditions, stating, “We can enter in the morning and we must leave the same day.”

The Iranian team is set to compete in three group-stage matches within the United States, with two games scheduled in Los Angeles, California, and one in Seattle, Washington. The constraints come as tensions have increased following the US and Israel’s airstrikes on Iran in late February, which prompted a series of retaliatory measures from Iran.

The conflict saw Iran launching strikes against Israel and other nations hosting US military bases, alongside disruptions in the Strait, a vital corridor for global energy transportation. Although a ceasefire has been established, diplomatic negotiations are ongoing to achieve a more comprehensive resolution.
