Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Friday stated that restoring diplomatic relations with the United States "isn't impossible," following discussions with Qatar's prime minister and foreign minister in Tehran. Araghchi emphasized the potential for renewed diplomacy via his account on the US-based social media platform X, highlighting a productive dialogue with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

According to Anadolu Agency, Araghchi remarked, "Putting diplomacy back on track isn't impossible. It hinges on U.S. understanding of one simple fact: pressure doesn't work." He further stressed the necessity for the US to "build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and uphold commitments."

Sheikh Mohammed's visit to Tehran on Thursday was part of Doha's ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Iran and the US. During his visit, he engaged in talks with key Iranian leaders, including President Masoud Pezeshkian, Araghchi, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei.

The discussions focused on creating conditions conducive to the resumption of dialogue, proposing a temporary joint navigational corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, and addressing mine-clearing efforts. This visit marked the Qatari foreign minister's first trip to Iran since the conflict escalated with US and Israeli strikes in late February.
