Ankara: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that it conducted attacks on US military bases located in Kuwait and Jordan. According to IRIB, Iran's state broadcaster, the IRGC claimed responsibility for the strikes, which reportedly resulted in significant damage to military equipment and facilities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the IRGC stated that the attacks in Kuwait targeted Ali Al Salem Air Base, where a large military equipment warehouse, a US Patriot air defense system, and a hangar housing MQ-9 drones were destroyed. The force also claimed to have hit Udairi Camp, impacting accommodations used by US personnel and two helicopter hangars, causing casualties among American troops and extensive damage to helicopters and drones.
The IRGC further asserted that a telecommunications tower was targeted in retaliation for US strikes on Iran's communications infrastructure. Addressing concerns from the Kuwaiti public, the IRGC clarified that its attacks were specifically aimed at US military sites and did not infringe upon Kuwait's sovereignty or territorial integrity.
Additionally, the IRGC reported strikes on US bases in Jordan, claiming the destruction of a radar associated with a THAAD missile defense system, a Patriot system, and a C-RAM radar. The attacks allegedly set fuel tanks ablaze and damaged a helicopter equipment warehouse and a maintenance hangar.
In a related incident, the Kuwait Fire Force reported that firefighting teams successfully contained a fire at the Abdali border crossing in northern Kuwait, which was triggered by what was described as 'hostile' drone activity. Fire Force spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Badr Ibrahim confirmed that there were no injuries, but the fire resulted in material damage.
The regional situation has been tense since the US and Israel initiated a joint offensive against Iran in February, prompting Iran to retaliate with strikes on Gulf nations hosting US military assets. Recent tensions have been exacerbated by exchanges of attacks over the Strait of Hormuz, despite a Pakistani-mediated memorandum of understanding signed last month aimed at resolving the conflict between the US and Iran.
