Kuwait city: Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced early Sunday that missile and drone strikes targeted eight US military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain, in retaliation for recent American attacks on Iranian positions.
According to Anadolu Agency, a statement released by Iran's Tasnim News Agency detailed that the Revolutionary Guard's naval and aerospace units executed what they called a 'decisive' operation between 2 am and 3 am local time. The strikes reportedly focused on 'key US military infrastructures,' including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
The Revolutionary Guard described the operation as a response to US forces targeting five Iranian coastal positions earlier on Sunday. These US attacks were characterized by Iran as a pretext for confronting an Iranian operation against a 'violating vessel.' The statement emphasized that navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz are coordinated with Iran under the 'Islamabad memorandum.'
Furthermore, the Revolutionary Guard issued a stern warning against 'violating vessels,' stating that they would meet 'stronger action than before.' The force also cautioned that any future attacks by the 'enemy,' regardless of their scale or justification, would elicit a 'crushing response.' The statement highlighted that any breach of the ceasefire would disrupt 'all ongoing processes' under the Islamabad memorandum.
In response, Kuwait reported that its air defense systems were actively countering 'hostile' missile and drone threats. Meanwhile, Bahrain activated public warning sirens and advised residents to seek the nearest safe place. This situation followed reports of several explosions in southern Iran, including in Sirik and on Qeshm Island, where Iranian media reported projectiles had struck a telecommunications tower in Tahrouyi village.
The US military's Central Command confirmed additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran. They stated that US forces targeted Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, and drone-related facilities, citing continued Iranian actions against commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz as justification for their actions.
