Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Claim to Shoot Down US Drones Near Strait of Hormuz

Bandar Khamir:Tehran Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that its air defense units have successfully shot down two US LUCAS attack drones. The incident reportedly took place over Bandar Khamir in the southern province of Hormozgan, close to the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the IRGC's Hormozgan public relations office provided a statement, reported by the Fars News Agency, confirming that the two US LUCAS one-way attack drones were detected, tracked, and destroyed by the air defense units of the Imam Sajjad Corps.

There has been no immediate response from the United States regarding Iran's claims. This development occurs amidst ongoing military tensions between Tehran and Washington, which have been exacerbated by the US-Israeli conflict with Iran that began on February 28.

Since the start of hostilities, the US military has conducted strikes against various Iranian military positions, targeting air defense systems and other strategic objectives. The IRGC, operating alongside Iran's regular military, has been pivotal in responding to US and Israeli military actions.

Iranian forces have also increased their air defense activities, particularly in the southern region of Iran, where they have enhanced control over the Strait of Hormuz's maritime traffic. On Monday, US forces reportedly conducted strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island, targeting a surface-to-air missile launcher following an alleged attempt by Iranian forces to target a US military aircraft.
