Iraqi Forces Eliminate Senior ISIS Leader in Syria

Iraq: Iraqi counter-terrorism forces, in collaboration with the US-led coalition, successfully eliminated Omar Abdul Qader Bassam, also known as Abdulrahman Halabi, a high-ranking ISIS commander. The operation targeted the leader, who was accused of orchestrating attacks in Lebanon, Europe, and the US.

According to Anadolu Agency, Iraq's Counter-Terrorism Service announced the operation's success on Friday, highlighting that it resulted in the death of one of the most significant figures within the ISIS hierarchy. The operation was executed at dawn on Friday within Syrian territory, in coordination with international coalition forces.

The Counter-Terrorism Service further explained that Halabi held responsibilities for external operations and security, including the planning and management of 'remote provinces.' He played a direct role in the bombing of the Iranian embassy in Lebanon and was involved in thwarted terrorist operations in Europe and the United States, thanks to precise intelligence efforts.

The agency emphasized that the elimination of Halabi signifies a substantial strategic blow to ISIS, following a series of successful missions over the past two months that resulted in the deaths of more than six senior ISIS leaders.
