Duhok: Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Saturday condemned an attack on the residence of Nechirvan Barzani, president of Iraq’s Kurdish Regional Government (KRG). The condemnation came during a phone call between Sudani and Barzani, as Sudani’s office stated, discussing developments in Iraq and the region along with ways to ensure security and stability.

According to Anadolu Agency, the premier ordered the formation of a joint security and technical team from the relevant security agencies of the federal government and the KRG to investigate the incident. The objective is to identify the perpetrators and take all necessary legal measures against them.

Sudani emphasized Baghdad’s determination to prevent any external party from involving Iraq in ongoing regional conflicts. Efforts are being made to safeguard Iraq’s sovereignty and stability amidst these tensions.

The attack on Barzani’s residence in Duhok was carried out by a drone, resulting in no casualties and only limited material damage near the interception sites. This incident occurs amid escalating hostilities in the region following a joint offensive by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, which has resulted in over 1,340 fatalities, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These retaliatory actions have caused casualties and infrastructure damage, affecting global markets and aviation.
