Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces Report US-Israeli Airstrikes on Strategic Sites

Baghdad: Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) claimed Monday that two of its positions were targeted in coordinated airstrikes in the northern and northeastern parts of the country.

According to Anadolu Agency, the PMF stated that an intelligence headquarters belonging to the 25th Brigade under the Nineveh Operations Command was struck early morning in the Hatra sector in northern Iraq. Shortly thereafter, four airstrikes targeted the 4th Regiment of the 52nd Brigade under the North and East Tigris Operations Command at al-Haliwah airport in Tuz Khurmatu in northeastern Iraq. The statement noted that no casualties were reported.

The PMF, a state-sanctioned Iraqi security and military umbrella group, was formed in 2014 following a religious edict by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani to combat the ISIS (Daesh) terrorist group. It was formally integrated into Iraq's armed forces in 2016. Washington accuses certain PMF factions of maintaining ties with Iran, as Iraqi groups operating under the 'Islamic Resistance in Iraq' have claimed responsibility for attacks on US bases in the region.

The US and Israel have continued an air offensive against Iran since February 28, resulting in the deaths of over 1,400 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets. These actions have caused casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
