Tehran: The navy commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Thursday that Tehran is prepared to deliver 'the most severe blows to its enemies' while persisting in its strategy of keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed.

According to Anadolu Agency, Alireza Tangsiri made the statement on the US social media platform X, indicating that the actions are in response to orders from the Commander-in-Chief, Mojtaba Khamenei. Iranian forces are committed to maintaining the closure of the critical Gulf waterway and to inflicting significant damage on adversaries.

Earlier, Iran's newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, in his first public address, declared that the strait must remain closed. This move was in retaliation for the US-Israeli strikes initiated on February 28.

The ongoing joint attack by the US and Israel has resulted in over 1,300 fatalities, including the former supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and has injured more than 10,000 individuals. Additionally, the UN relief agency UNHCR reports that up to 3.2 million Iranians have been temporarily displaced due to the conflict.

In response, Tehran has conducted drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and other Gulf nations that host US military installations.

Mojtaba Khamenei was appointed as the successor to his late father, Ali Khamenei, earlier this week.
