Ankara: Israel's Defense Ministry has taken significant steps to accelerate the production of its Arrow missile defense system. This system is crucial for intercepting long-range ballistic missiles, a move seen as essential given the current geopolitical climate.

According to Anadolu Agency, Director-General Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir signed an order to expedite the production of the Arrow missiles. The Arrow system, known in Hebrew as 'Hetz', is a key component of Israel's multi-layered air defense network. It operates alongside the Iron Dome, which targets short- and medium-range rockets, and David's Sling, which intercepts medium- to long-range threats.

The new agreement mandates Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to provide the Defense Ministry with a substantial increase in the number of Arrow missiles. This system is developed and produced in cooperation with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), with Stark Aerospace, an American company, also playing a role in its production.

The Defense Ministry has highlighted the Arrow system's capabilities, noting its performance during recent military operations, such as the Gaza war and a confrontation with Iran. However, reports from international media, including Britain's Telegraph, have pointed out failures in Israel's defense systems. These reports mention missiles from Iran and Yemen's Houthi group evading interception, with one Houthi missile landing near Ben Gurion Airport and Iranian attacks hitting sensitive sites.

Furthermore, Israel's Channel 12 reported that the Red Sea port of Eilat will halt operations due to mounting debt. This financial strain is attributed to a prolonged naval blockade enforced by the threat of Houthi missiles.

In another development, Israeli daily Maariv reported on political and security assessments that suggest the ceasefire with Iran might not be lasting. The potential for renewed conflict remains high, a sentiment echoed by both Iranian and international commentators.
