Gaza: At least 110 Israeli violations against Palestinian press and journalists in Gaza and the occupied West Bank were documented in January, according to a local press group.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate released a statement late Sunday highlighting the escalation of Israeli army violations against Palestinian journalists and media coverage in Gaza and the West Bank during January. This included the killing of seven journalists in Gaza and injuries to six others.

The statement further detailed that the Israeli army detained three Palestinian journalists from the West Bank, interrogated two, and physically assaulted three more. Additionally, 17 journalists experienced tear gas asphyxiation and were affected by stun grenades while covering Israeli assaults, with 40 others being obstructed from press coverage across the West Bank.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate emphasized its ongoing communication with relevant Arab and international press groups to expose Israel's actions against Palestinian journalists and explore protective measures against these assaults.

In recent years, the Israeli military has regularly conducted raids in the West Bank, with incidents intensifying since the onset of the war on Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023. Palestinians have also faced violent attacks from illegal Israeli settlers.

The Health Ministry reports that at least 906 Palestinians have been killed and over 7,000 others injured by Israeli army fire in the West Bank.

In July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel's long-standing occupation of Palestinian land illegal, mandating the evacuation of all existing settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

A ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal took effect in Gaza on Jan. 19, following 15 months of conflict that resulted in nearly 48,200 Palestinian deaths and left the enclave in ruins.
