Beirut: The Israeli army has renewed its evacuation warnings for residents in eight areas of Beirut’s southern suburbs, despite increasing international demands to halt its attacks on Lebanon.

According to Anadolu Agency, military spokesperson Avichay Adraee delivered an ‘urgent warning’ on Thursday through a post on the US social media platform X, urging residents to vacate their homes immediately. The areas specified include Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, Laylaki, Hadath, Burj al-Barajneh, Tahwitat al-Ghadir, Chiyah, and Jnah, which encompass much of Beirut’s southern suburbs.

The warnings follow the onset of a US-Iran ceasefire that began on Wednesday. Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli army has repeatedly directed Lebanese residents to evacuate their homes in anticipation of planned attacks. This has been followed by multiple airstrikes carried out by Israel on the specified regions.

The situation escalated after the US and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire, facilitated by Pakistan, aiming for a final agreement to end hostilities initiated by Washington and Tel Aviv against Tehran on February 28. The conflict has resulted in thousands of casualties. Although Islamabad and Tehran asserted that the ceasefire includes Lebanon, Washington and Tel Aviv refuted this, and the Israeli military proceeded with a significant wave of airstrikes on Wednesday. These strikes resulted in at least 254 fatalities and 1,165 injuries, as reported by Lebanon’s Civil Defense.

The intensified Israeli offensive on Lebanon since March 2 has led to the deaths of 1,739 individuals and injuries to 5,873 others, according to data from the Lebanese Health Ministry.
