Beirut: The Israeli army on Saturday ordered residents of a Lebanese town in the south to evacuate ahead of attacks, in the latest violation of a ceasefire agreement in place since November 2024. Military spokesman Avichay Adraee stated in a post on US social media company X that the army is preparing to strike Hezbollah military infrastructure in the village of Yanooh in the near future.

According to Anadolu Agency, Adraee shared a map pinpointing a building in Yanooh and advised residents to maintain a distance of at least 300 meters from the site. This development marks a significant escalation as the ceasefire, agreed upon last year, aimed to halt hostilities following a prolonged period of conflict linked to the war in the Gaza Strip that resulted in over 4,000 fatalities and left 17,000 others injured.

The ceasefire agreement mandated an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January this year. However, the Israeli army has only partially complied, maintaining a military presence at five border outposts despite the agreement. This ongoing military activity highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire and the continuing tensions between Tel Aviv and Beirut.
