Israel Urges Citizens to Avoid European Sporting Events Amid Rising Tensions.

AMSTERDAM: The Israeli National Security Council has issued a warning advising Israelis to steer clear of cultural and sporting events in Europe, following a surge of violence in Amsterdam. This advisory comes in the wake of disturbances linked to a recent soccer match. According to Anadolu Agency, tensions in Amsterdam escalated on Thursday when supporters of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team engaged in aggressive behavior. These fans were reported to have hurled racist and offensive slurs against Arabs, dismantled Palestinian flags, and caused disruptions after their match against Ajax Amsterdam. Jazie Veldhuyzen, a senior city councilor in Amsterdam, commented on the situation, noting that "Maccabi hooligans initiated attacks on homes displaying Palestinian flags and targeted pro-Palestinian residents of Amsterdam. That's when the violence began." The council's warning specifically advises Israelis to "completely avoid games or cultural events involving Israeli participation over the next week," highlight ing the potential risks associated with such gatherings.
