Israeli Airline Arkia Suspends Ticket Sales to Marrakech Amid Security Concerns

Tel Aviv:Israeli airline Arkia has announced a suspension of ticket sales for flights to Marrakech, Morocco, citing a request from Israeli security authorities. The airline has not disclosed the specific reasons for this decision.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, the suspension follows a request from Israeli security authorities, although the exact nature of the security concerns has not been detailed. Arkia is in discussions with relevant authorities and security agencies to determine whether flights on the route can continue.

The airline is exploring possible alternatives to maintain the route, potentially through partnerships with other commercial airlines, should Israeli authorities decide to halt flights by Israeli airlines to Marrakech. However, no specific alternatives have been provided yet.

This development comes just two months after Arkia resumed flights to Marrakech, following a three-year suspension. Additionally, Israel had announced the cancellation of some planned flights to Morocco a week ago due to security concerns. The suspension of ticket sales also coincides with the upcoming general election in Israel, scheduled for October 27.

Morocco and Israel have maintained diplomatic relations since December 2020, with direct flights being a key area of cooperation between the two nations.
