Gaza city: An Israeli airstrike destroyed a mosque and tents sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza City on Tuesday, leaving hundreds homeless, according to an Anadolu correspondent. The correspondent reported that Israeli fighter jets targeted the Al-Muttaqin Mosque, situated near the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in central Gaza City, resulting in the complete destruction of the religious building.

According to Anadolu Agency, the airstrike also obliterated tents that were providing shelter to families displaced by previous Israeli attacks, leading to further extensive damage to nearby homes and civilian properties. The attack has left hundreds of Palestinians without shelter in an area already suffering from widespread destruction.

The tents that were destroyed had been accommodating families who had already lost their homes to earlier strikes, forcing them to endure harsh living conditions with limited access to essential resources. The YMCA in Gaza, a Christian community institution, has been a key provider of youth, sports, social, and humanitarian services to residents of the enclave, irrespective of their religious affiliations.

This incident occurs amid ongoing Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire agreement that was supposed to take effect on October 10, 2025. On July 2, Gaza's Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs reported that Israeli attacks had completely destroyed 1,050 mosques and partially damaged 191 others, from a total of 1,275 mosques that existed in the enclave before the conflict.

Since the onset of Israel's military offensive on Gaza on October 8, 2023, Palestinian authorities have reported more than 73,000 Palestinian fatalities, over 174,000 injuries, and the destruction of approximately 90% of the enclave's civilian infrastructure.
