Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Result in 11 Fatalities and Target Civil Defense Teams

Beirut: Israeli airstrikes killed at least 11 people and wounded dozens Thursday across southern Lebanon, with attacks also targeting civil defense teams and causing widespread destruction in residential neighborhoods despite a ceasefire, Lebanese media reported.

According to Anadolu Agency, two people were killed in a strike targeting a car in the town of Ain Baal in the Tyre district, as reported by Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA). Two others lost their lives in a separate strike on a pickup truck along Habboush Road in the Nabatieh district.

In Harouf, one person was killed and three others were injured following an airstrike on a house. Another strike on the city of Nabatieh resulted in one fatality and an unspecified number of injuries, along with extensive destruction to homes and commercial shops.

Additional strikes claimed the life of one person in Deir al-Zahrani and another in a raid on the town of Doueir. An attack targeting a motorcycle near the Breqaa junction in the Nabatieh district also resulted in one death. A separate strike on a truck near Safa station on the Meifadoun road killed one individual.

In the Toul area of the Nabatieh district, two people were injured when a strike targeted a civil defense team, damaging an ambulance. Another strike was directed at a civil defense crew in Majdal Selm in the Marjayoun district, resulting in injuries.

Civil defense workers in Aadshit were attacked while evacuating an injured person, as per local reports. Additional attacks wounded at least one person in Doueir and another in Jouaiya in the Tyre district. Several injuries were also reported following a strike on the central square of Doueir, which destroyed homes and damaged a mosque and commercial shops.

Lebanese media reported artillery shelling and drone strikes by Israel in several areas of southern Lebanon, including Habboush, Deir al-Zahrani, Kfour, Deir Kifa, and Hannawiyah, as well as the main road between Khirbet Selm and Qalawiya. NNA also noted Israeli drones flying at low altitudes above Beirut and its suburbs.

In retaliation, Hezbollah launched eight attacks on Israeli targets in southern Lebanon. These attacks aimed at two tanks, a military bulldozer, a command center, and three gatherings of soldiers and military vehicles.

Despite a ceasefire announced on April 17 and extended until May 17, the Israeli army continues daily strikes in Lebanon and the widespread demolition of homes in dozens of villages, mirroring its longstanding actions in Gaza. Since March 2, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in at least 2,727 deaths, 8,438 injuries, and the displacement of over 1.6 million people, roughly one-fifth of the population, according to the latest official figures.

Israel occupies areas in southern Lebanon, including territories held for decades and others since the 2023-2024 war, having advanced approximately 10 kilometers inside the southern border during the current conflict.
