Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Result in 23 Fatalities and Multiple Injuries

Beirut: At least 23 people were killed and several others injured in fresh Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Friday despite a temporary ceasefire, according to the National News Agency (NNA).

According to Anadolu Agency, the news agency cited the Health Ministry, reporting that an Israeli strike targeted the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, resulting in two deaths and injuries to 10 others. Rescue teams also recovered five bodies from the rubble of a building in Kfar Roummane of Nabatieh, which was hit in an overnight strike.

The agency further detailed that civil defense crews and ambulance teams from the Islamic Risala Scout Association were involved in clearing debris in Nabatieh after the strike. The targeted building had been attacked by Israeli warplanes.

In the town of Deir Qanoun Ras al-Ain, an Israeli airstrike claimed two lives and injured two others. Meanwhile, a Lebanese woman was killed, and four others were wounded after a house was shelled in the town of Ain Baal, east of Tyre.

The Health Ministry stated that eight people, including a child and two women, were killed, and 28 others were injured, including a child and a woman, in the town of Habbouch in the Nabatieh district. Additionally, Israeli airstrikes on the town of Zrariyeh in the Sidon district resulted in four fatalities, including two women, and injuries to four others, including a child and a woman.

In another incident, a person was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the town of Borj Qalaouiye in the Bint Jbeil district. In response to Hezbollah's retaliation to the Iran war, Israel has been conducting an offensive in Lebanon since March 2, leading to over 2,600 deaths and displacing more than 1 million people.

A 10-day ceasefire that began on April 17 was later extended until May 17, yet Israel reportedly continues to violate it daily through airstrikes and the demolition of homes. The country also maintains a "buffer zone" in southern Lebanon, claiming it is intended to prevent attacks from Hezbollah. An earlier truce was reached in November 2024.
