Beirut: One person was killed and two others were wounded in two Israeli airstrikes targeting a car and motorcycle in southern Lebanon on Sunday, marking a new violation of last year's ceasefire deal, the Lebanese Health Ministry said. In a statement, the ministry indicated that Israeli aircraft struck a car and motorcycle in the town of Yater, situated in the Bint Jbeil district, resulting in the casualties.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lebanon's official news agency, NNA, earlier reported that an Israeli drone strike hit a moving car in the al-Kassar neighborhood in Yater on Sunday. The Israeli army claimed that the attack was aimed at two Hezbollah operatives engaged in what it described as 'military activity' near the border. However, there was no comment from Hezbollah regarding the Israeli claim.

Last week, Israeli media reported that the army had completed preparations for a potential large-scale attack on Hezbollah positions if Lebanon's government and army fail to dismantle the group's weapons by the end of 2025. Israel and Lebanon reached a ceasefire in November 2024 after enduring more than a year of cross-border attacks amid the war in Gaza, which resulted in over 4,000 deaths and 17,000 injuries.

Under the terms of the ceasefire, Israeli forces were supposed to withdraw from southern Lebanon in January but have only partially pulled out, maintaining a military presence at five border outposts.
