Beirut: Four individuals, including a young child, lost their lives due to Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, as reported by the Lebanese Health Ministry. These recent attacks signify a breach of the ceasefire agreement that has been in place since late 2024.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Lebanese Health Ministry disclosed that three victims, among them a 3-year-old child, perished in an airstrike targeting a vehicle in the Yanooh town of the Tyre district. An additional civilian was also killed by Israeli gunfire in Aita al-Shaab, located in the Bint Jbeil district.
The state-run National News Agency detailed an incident where two individuals were targeted with sound bombs from an Israeli drone while they were at the Aita al-Shaab cemetery, though no injuries were reported. Local media further noted the abduction of a Lebanese citizen by Israeli forces from his residence in southern Lebanon.
In response, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam instructed Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji to take immediate steps and liaise with the United Nations regarding the situation. The ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire, established in November 2024, have resulted in significant casualties in Lebanon, with Israel maintaining control over several Lebanese areas seized during the recent conflict.
The military operations initiated by Israel against Lebanon in October 2023 escalated to a full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in over 4,000 fatalities and around 17,000 injuries. Lebanese authorities have consistently urged international intervention to pressure Israel into ceasing its attacks and adhering to the ceasefire terms. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has reiterated its commitment to the truce, calling for Israel's withdrawal from the territories occupied in the last war.
