Tel Aviv: Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir has approved 'new operational plans' aimed at expanding the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip.

According to Anadolu Agency, Zamir has sanctioned these 'new operational plans for continued fighting in the Gaza Strip.' This follows his directive last Sunday to broaden the offensive to cover additional areas in both northern and southern Gaza.

In a report dated May 22, Israeli media revealed that the army plans to take control of 75% of Gaza within the next two months. Despite international demands for a ceasefire, Israel has continued its operations in Gaza since October 2023, resulting in the deaths of nearly 54,700 Palestinians, predominantly women and children. Aid agencies have expressed concerns about potential famine among the enclave's population of over 2 million.

In response to these ongoing actions, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions against civilians in the region.
