Tel aviv: The Israeli army announced on Friday that it has achieved 'operational control' over approximately 65% of the Gaza Strip's territory. This declaration comes amidst an ongoing and intense military campaign in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the military reported that over the past week, its forces have killed more than 100 Palestinian fighters in the northern part of Gaza. The army also claimed to have conducted over 7,500 strikes aimed at what it described as 'infrastructure belonging to Palestinian factions in Gaza.' However, field reports indicate that these strikes have predominantly resulted in civilian casualties, affecting those displaced and seeking aid.

The situation escalated after Israeli Channel 13 disclosed that Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir communicated to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a Cabinet meeting that the military is unable to exert control over the two million Palestinians residing in Gaza. Despite ongoing international appeals for a ceasefire, the conflict has persisted, with more than 57,200 Palestinians, mostly women and children, reported killed since October 2023.

Further complicating the situation, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants last November for Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Additionally, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its actions in the enclave.
