Ankara: The Israeli army has announced the successful interception of a drone launched from Yemen by the Houthi group. The incident took place on Tuesday, with the Israeli Air Force taking action against the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was directed toward the southern city of Eilat.

According to Anadolu Agency, Yemen's Houthi group has claimed responsibility for launching a dual drone attack targeting southern Israel. The group's military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated that the attack struck both the port of Eilat and a military site in the Negev region. The operation was described as a 'simultaneous military operation' involving three UAVs.

Saree detailed that two of the drones targeted a 'key military target' in the Negev, while a third drone struck the Eilat port. He emphasized that the operation 'successfully hit its targets,' highlighting the group's ongoing campaign against Israel.

The Houthis have increased their missile and drone strikes on Israel following Israel's resumption of attacks on the Gaza Strip in March, after a brief ceasefire. Since November 2023, the Houthi group has also been targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, and the Arabian Sea, expressing support for Palestinians in Gaza where a significant number of casualties have occurred due to Israeli military actions.
