Daraa: The Israeli army launched artillery attacks on the western countryside of Daraa in southern Syria, targeting areas in the Yarmouk Basin, according to reports from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA). The shelling, which occurred on Friday, is part of ongoing tensions in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, the artillery shells landed on the outskirts of the town of Jamla, causing panic among local residents as they fell into agricultural areas and near residential neighborhoods. Despite the fear and disruption caused by the shelling, no casualties or significant material damage have been reported.

This military action comes in the wake of comments by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who stated that negotiations with Israel have not completely stalled, although they face obstacles due to Israel's demand to maintain a military presence on Syrian soil. This insistence remains a contentious point in discussions aimed at achieving a security agreement.

The tensions have been exacerbated since the collapse of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024. Following this, Israel declared the 1974 Disengagement Agreement void and moved to occupy the buffer zone along the frontier. Despite the lack of threats from the new Syrian administration towards Israel, Israeli forces have continued to conduct airstrikes within Syria, targeting military installations and equipment, and resulting in civilian casualties.
