Naqoura: Lebanese civil defense teams came under Israeli fire on Thursday while searching the rubble for victims, local media said. Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that Israeli artillery shelling targeted civil defense teams in Naqoura as they were searching through the debris of destroyed buildings in the area. The teams were compelled to retreat after Israeli forces detonated an explosive-laden drone in close proximity, as per the agency's account. The Israeli army has not provided any comments regarding these claims. According to Anadolu Agency, the civil defense teams had earlier recovered the bodies of 16 individuals from beneath the rubble in the southern towns of Shama, Biyyadah, and Naqoura on Thursday morning. This incident occurs amidst a cease-fire agreement that came into effect on November 27, aiming to conclude 14 months of conflict between the Israeli army and Hezbollah forces. The cease-fire, however, is considered precarious, with Lebanon documenting over 130 alleged Israel i violations. As per the terms of the cease-fire, Israel is expected to withdraw its forces south of the Blue Line de facto border in a phased approach, while the Lebanese army is to deploy its forces in southern Lebanon within a maximum timeframe of 60 days. The implementation of this agreement is to be overseen by the US and France, though specifics on enforcement mechanisms remain ambiguous. The conflict has resulted in over 4,000 deaths and more than 16,500 injuries in Lebanon due to Israeli attacks, with over 1 million people displaced since October 2023, according to Lebanese health authorities.
