Gaza city: An Israeli bullet pierced the hand of a Palestinian sixth-grade student and lodged in his wrist while he was sitting in class at a school west of Gaza City on Monday despite the ongoing ceasefire, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Education.

According to Anadolu Agency, the ministry stated that Khaled Al-Ashram was wounded by direct Israeli fire targeting Al-Sawafir School in western Gaza. The incident occurred as the child was sitting at his school desk, holding his pen, when the bullet pierced his hand and settled in his wrist. The ministry described the scene as tragic and condemned the attack as an assault on the right to life and education.

The ministry's statement, accompanied by a photo showing the child's bloodied hand, expressed strong condemnation of the continued Israeli attacks on educational institutions. It emphasized that targeting children in class constitutes a multiple crime.

This attack is part of Israel's ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement, which has been in effect since October 10, 2025. The violations have resulted in the deaths of 1,250 Palestinians and injuries to 4,110 others as of Monday. Palestinians argue that Israel's actions have turned the ceasefire into an illusion, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza by maintaining closed crossings and allowing only limited humanitarian aid.

The ceasefire agreement was established after two years of conflict beginning on October 8, 2023, which resulted in more than 73,000 Palestinian deaths and over 174,000 injuries, primarily affecting women and children, while decimating 90% of Gaza's infrastructure.
