Aitaroun: An Israeli drone strike has resulted in the death of one person after targeting a vehicle between the southern Lebanese towns of Aitaroun and Ainata. This incident marks another breach of the ceasefire agreement that has been in place since late 2024, as reported by local authorities.

According to Anadolu Agency, the drone fired four missiles at the vehicle in the afternoon, resulting in the death of the vehicle's sole occupant. The state news agency NNA confirmed the strike while the Health Ministry verified the fatality but did not disclose the identity of the victim.

This event follows the killing of a Lebanese journalist a day earlier when an Israeli drone attacked his car on the Sidon-Tyre road in southern Nabatieh. Additionally, on Thursday, eight people, including a Syrian national, lost their lives, and 12 others were injured in three separate Israeli airstrikes on eastern and southern Lebanon. Local media has described these attacks as the deadliest in three weeks.

Israel initiated military operations in Lebanon on October 8, 2023. The conflict escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024, resulting in more than 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries. Although a ceasefire was reached in November, Israeli forces have continued to conduct almost daily attacks in southern Lebanon, claiming to target Hezbollah activities.

Under the ceasefire terms, Israel was expected to completely withdraw from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was later extended to February 18 due to non-compliance from Tel Aviv. Despite this extension, Israel still maintains a military presence at five border outposts.
