Beirut: Six people were killed and 10 others injured in a series of Israeli drone strikes in eastern Lebanon, marking a violation of the ceasefire agreement established since late 2024. The attacks occurred on Thursday, further escalating tensions in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that a strike targeted a vehicle on the al-Masnaa international road in Bekaa Valley. This attack resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to 10 others. Additionally, a separate drone strike in the town of Kfar Dan, west of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, claimed the life of a Lebanese civilian. The agency noted that the man was targeted while standing outside his home.

A statement from the Health Ministry reported that a Syrian national was killed and two others injured in an overnight Israeli strike on the town of Deir Siriane, located in the Marjaayoun district of southern Lebanon. The Israeli military also targeted the northern outskirts of Deir Siriane near the Litani River, as well as a garage and bulldozers situated near residential areas, as per NNA.

In a military statement, the Israeli army claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that they were directed at Hezbollah infrastructure sites. Israel had initiated military operations in Lebanon on October 8, 2023, which escalated into a full-scale war by September 2024. The conflict has resulted in over 4,000 deaths and approximately 17,000 injuries.

A ceasefire was established in November, yet Israeli forces have continued almost daily attacks in southern Lebanon, justifying these actions as targeting Hezbollah activities. Under the terms of the truce, Israel was to complete its withdrawal from southern Lebanon by January 26. However, the deadline was extended to February 18 following Tel Aviv's non-compliance, and Israel retains a military presence at five border outposts.
