Ankara:The Israeli Central Elections Committee has decided to permit the far-right Jewish Power party, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, to participate in the upcoming elections. The decision was made by a vote of 19-10, with one committee member abstaining.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Democratic Party, led by Yair Golan, had requested the disqualification of Jewish Power, citing reasons such as 'incitement to racism' and 'harming democracy.' Knesset member Gilad Kariv from the Democrats party argued that disqualifying the party was necessary due to the alleged racist nature of its list and leaders.

Separately, the committee decided to disqualify the Joint Arab List alliance, the United Arab List, and Knesset members Ofer Cassif and Sami Abu Shehadeh from participating in the election. The committee is set to review a disqualification request for the Religious Zionism and Identity list in upcoming sessions.

The Central Elections Committee comprises representatives from parliamentary blocs in the outgoing Knesset, with the governing coalition holding a majority of the 34 seats. Its role is to ensure a proper and reliable electoral process that reflects the will of the voters in Israel.

Currently led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli government is considered the most right-wing in the country's history. Netanyahu faces corruption charges that could lead to imprisonment if convicted and has been wanted by the International Criminal Court since 2024 for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
