Beirut: Israeli forces opened fire Monday on residential neighborhoods in the southern Daraa countryside in southern Syria, marking the latest violation of the Arab country's sovereignty. Israeli forces stationed at Al-Jazeera barracks on the western outskirts of Ma'ariya directed their fire towards residential areas, as reported by Syria's Alikhbariah TV.

According to Anadolu Agency, there have been no reports of casualties resulting from the gunfire. The Syrian authorities have not provided any official comment regarding the incident. This development follows a statement by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who announced on Sunday that the UN would present a detailed report to the Security Council later this month on Israeli violations in Syria. Guterres, speaking at a news conference in Damascus, emphasized that violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity were "unacceptable" and urged Israel to adhere to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

Southern Syria has been experiencing recurring Israeli incursions and attacks over recent months, including raids, searches, arrests, and the establishment of military checkpoints. These activities have intensified since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December 2024, when Israel declared the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and seized control of the Syrian buffer zone.
