Israeli Forces Kill Disabled Civilian, Abduct Young Man During Southern Syria Incursion

Accra:Israeli forces reportedly killed a civilian with disabilities and abducted a young man during an incursion into Daraa and Quneitra provinces in southern Syria. The incidents occurred on Thursday as Israeli military activities in the region continue to escalate.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Israeli forces entered Taranja village in Quneitra with seven military vehicles, where they abducted a young man and obstructed a UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) patrol by blocking the village road. The identity of the abducted man and his whereabouts remain undisclosed.

On the same day, Israeli forces reportedly shot dead a civilian with disabilities in Jamlah village, Daraa province. The victim's body was transferred to Daraa National Hospital, but details about his identity and the nature of his disability were not provided. During the incursion, Israeli troops were said to have deployed snipers on residential rooftops and conducted house searches while firing indiscriminately.

Furthermore, Israeli artillery shelled areas near Abidin village in the Yarmouk Basin on Wednesday, with no reported casualties or damage. Syria's Foreign Ministry has condemned these incursions, urging the international community to intervene and press Israel to adhere to international law. The ministry emphasized that such violations disrupt regional stability and hinder reconstruction efforts.

Israel has maintained a military presence in the Golan Heights since 1967 and expanded its activities following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. A UN-monitored buffer zone established by a 1974 agreement separates Syrian and Israeli forces. Despite US-mediated talks aimed at reducing tensions, Israeli military operations in southern Syria persist.
