Quneitra: One person was killed in an Israeli strike on a village in the Quneitra countryside of southern Syria, local media said on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state-run media outlet, the Israeli army struck a house in Turnejeh village, north of Quneitra, resulting in the death of a young resident.

The channel also reported an overnight raid by the Israeli troops on Suwaisa village in Quneitra. During the raid, the troops fired flare shells into the sky and conducted searches in the area amid confrontations with local residents. A young citizen was reportedly detained by the army forces during these operations.

This incident marks the fourth Israeli raid in August on the Quneitra region, which is located within the disengagement zone in the occupied Golan Heights. Israel's Defense Minister Israel Katz, speaking through the US social media platform X, emphasized the Israeli army's strategic presence in the area. He stated that the army's presence is vital to protect the Golan and Galilee settlements and the Druze community in Syria.

For the past seven months, the Israeli army has maintained control over Mount Hermon (Jabal al-Sheikh) and a 15-kilometer-wide security strip in parts of southern Syria, overseeing more than 40,000 Syrians within the seized buffer zone. Following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, a move that breached the 1974 Disengagement Agreement with Syria.

Despite the establishment of a new Syrian administration in late December 2024, which has not posed a threat to Israel, the Israeli military has continued to cross into Syrian territory. The military operations have included airstrikes that have resulted in civilian casualties and the destruction of Syria's military sites and infrastructure.
